Scottish town opens “South Aussie’s Motel” with giant statue of Darren Jarman

DAN SCHMIDT

On the outskirts of Glasgow, the small Scottish town of McDundee has returned the South Australian reverence to Scotland with a tribute to Adelaide’s finest and most extravagant hotel experience.

‘Aye, once we ‘eard o’ whatye’ South Aussie’s ‘ave din tae ye’ ‘otel we thought tae’ return the favour’ said South Aussie’s Motel proprietor Porter McInn, who won’t have any more quotes in this article because it’s too hard to write.

South Aussie’s Motel is an almost identical replica of Adelaide’s Scotty’s Motel, except for one main difference. Instead of the iconic Scottish piper statue, South Aussie’s Motel pays homage to one of the greatest ever South Australians, Darren Jarman.

Dressed in the traditional South Australian garb, the State of Origin guernsey, the statue of Jarman stands at two stories tall and nearly as wide.

Hoping to draw a range of tourists from all around the world, South Aussie’s Motel encapsulates all that is great about South Australia: Footy, rising salt damp, and car-park drug deals.
