Heart-warming: Man aims to make Southern Expressway safer by driving 10km’s under limit in right lane

DAN SCHMIDT

In an innovative and heart-warming attempt to increase road safety, one unsung local hero, Moe Trist of Seaford Meadows, has begun deliberately driving slower in the right hand lane of the Southern Expressway.

Moe, who is a self-proclaimed “road safety expert”, believes that by driving well under the speed limit in the right hand lane he will encourage other drivers to slow down and be more cautious.

‘I’m just trying to do my part to make the roads safer,’ Moe said. ‘If everyone drove slower in the right hand lane, there would be fewer accidents and everyone would get to their destination safely’.

“It’s just my way of reminding everyone to slow down and not be in such a rush on our roads.”

– Moe Trist, Seaford Meadows resident

‘The idea just came to me one day when I saw all these cars rushing past me on the right. I thought to myself “What can I do to make the roads safer for everyone?” And then it came to me. Since then I’ve just been doing my bit for the community by driving well under the limit. I hope others will do the same’.

‘It’s working well’, Moe continued ‘when people get right up behind me they slow right down. Going from 110 to 80 in a matter of seconds. That gives me great satisfaction to know that I’m slowing drivers down and making everything much, much safer’.

‘I think it’s starting to catch on. Whenever I’m on the roads other drivers are always yelling what I assume are words of encouragement to me from their cars. Some even stick their hands out the window to give me a friendly wave, mainly with just the one finger, but I still appreciate it’.

Moe’s community service has been recognised by many other drivers who are actively seeking his home address to send him some personal acknowledgement.
