Fringe ends, Arj Barker once again cryogenically frozen for 11 months

DAN SCHMIDT

After another successful Adelaide Fringe Festival for our FIFO comedians, many ore once again returning to their cryogenic freezers until next February.

Semi-local comedian Arj Barker told Adelaide Mail ‘It’s great. Finish my last set, jump in the capsule, get back out a few hours before next year’s opening night so I can defrost, right back on stage. Keeps me fresh and it’s why I never appear to age on my Fringe posters’.

Whilst many comedians are missing out on most of the year, many like Arj maintain this is vital to their formula of success. March household names like Ross Noble, Akmal Saleh and Cal Wilson, who are seldom heard about any other time of the year, all maintain that this is the best way to keep themselves fresh.

When we asked Arj Barker how he finds the time to write new material if he’s frozen for the year, he just laughed and replied ‘You haven’t seen my show in the past decade, have you?’
